Writing Romance Fiction Salem College, Winston-Salem, NC Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m. ![]() Course Description: Romance novels make up half of the mass trade paperback market. Millions read them, and many thousands write --or want to write-- them. In this course, we will learn the basics of all good fiction: creating heroes and heroines with goals, motivation and conflict; writing dialogue that sizzles; developing page-turning plots and pacing; handling point-of-view; first chapter know-how; and the dreaded synopsis. You'll be able to develop a marketable first chapter and proposal targeted to agents and editors. In the last two sessions, we'll learn strategies for critiquing, then give feedback on each other's work.
